Poultry Facility Caretaker

About the role

The role combines animal care duties, including sample collection and processing, with strict compliance with biosecurity, cleaning and sterilisation standards, as well as a strong commitment to animal welfare.

Responsibilities

• Feeding and daily observation of the hens' health status.
• Collection, identification and storage of embryonated eggs following quality criteria.
• Monitoring behaviour and detecting signs of illness or distress.
• Administering treatments under veterinary supervision and assisting with breeding and replacement of the breeder flock.
• Collection, identification and processing of biological samples (blood, faeces, swabs, etc.) following established protocols.
• Preparation of materials and equipment for experimental or diagnostic procedures.
• Supporting the shipment of samples to external laboratories, ensuring traceability and compliance with transport regulations.
• Daily cleaning and disinfection of facilities, equipment and working materials.
• Strict control of access, sanitary showers and changes of clothing and PPE.
• Management of biological waste and application of disinfectants according to internal protocols and current regulations.
• Supporting environmental and surface microbiological control processes.
• Accurate data recording and strict compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Requirements

• Ability to work following rigorous, standardised procedures.
• Previous experience in animal facilities, poultry production or laboratory environments.
• Commitment to animal welfare and to the quality of the final product.
• Driving licence and own vehicle. On-site position in Cascante (Navarre).
• Training in biotechnology, animal production or similar is a plus.
